Role 1 - Synthetic Chemist Location: Stevenage You will join an existing chemistry team dedicated to improving the quality of human life by enabling people to do more, feel better and live longer. Placements are based in chemistry groups spanning all stages of the drug discovery and development process. You will work closely with your GSK supervisor in the planning and implementation of all aspects of your role. The placement is highly practically based. What makes this role exciting is that you will carry out a wide range of synthetic organic chemistry reactions aimed at delivering molecules of interest. You will also be introduced to state-of-the-art techniques for isolating and characterising compounds. What is more , The GSK Chemistry Industrial Placement programme is independently accredited by The National Council for Work Experience. Role 2 - Material Scientist Location: Stevenage A successful candidate will join the GSK Materials Science department and work as part of a multifunctional team responsible for identifying key Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient (API) attributes and translating this knowledge into the design of crystallisation and milling processes that deliver API suitable for formulation. Data produced by Analytical Development is key to the supply of novel medicines to patients. Positions in the UK are available in teams focused on separation science and spectroscopy. You will work in a either a GMP regulated environment or a non-GxP environment for specific development activities and gain experience of key analytical techniques and processes aligned to the characterisation of drug substances or pharmaceutical dosage forms. You will be supervised by an experienced GSK analyst who will guide you in your day-to-day activities. You will learn to utilise key practical skills and techniques that may include HPLC, GC, dissolution, MS, NMR, automated methods and platforms, method validation, stability testing, batch analysis testing and documentation. The data we generate contributes to key decisions that enable the progression of drug candidates through the development pipeline and into the clinic. We also develop new technologies to enhance our workflows and to support the GSK portfolio.
