Milking 250 pedigree Holsteins through 5 robots, automatic scrapers, TMR fed, 9000 litre average, (with scope to improve), coupled with a bonus scheme set to reward upward achieving results. Summer grazing. The suitable person will have the day-to-day control of the cows, all herd health requirements including AI along with liaising with the vet, maintaining herd records and basic maintenance of the robots. We have new contract vacancy for an enthusiastic Herdsperson to join a family farming operation near Chepstow. This well managed 120 cow AYR calving herd of Jerseys is yielding 5,200 % fat and 4.2% protein for their own in house milk processing operation, so needs to produce milk of the highest quality, for cheese and ice cream making. This NMR recorded herd is milked 2 x via 16 x 16 Herringbone parlour with ACR's and feeders. While housed cows are in a cubicle shed bedded with straw and tractor scraped, when weather permits cows graze within a set stocking routine. Candidates will need to have an empathy for the Jersey cow, do all the milking, scraping, bedding, feeding using a mixer wagon, (including youngstock) and day-to-day management of the herd to include calving, heat detection and monthly vet routines. Foot trimming is done via a contract trimmer and Cogent do the inseminations. Help is available at all times from the farmer.
