Job Description

Our client is an independent electronics company seeking an experienced Senior Electronics Design Engineer for their site near Portsmouth.

Job Responsibilities
  • Design of new products from feasibility studies, prototyping, environmental, EMC, and performance testing through to production testing and product launch.
  • Ensure project timelines and budgets are met.
  • Conduct detailed hardware and software design.
  • Train and support junior team members.
  • Collaborate with other disciplines within an integrated team.
  • Generate design, test, installation, and user documentation and manuals.
  • Design and build special test equipment for production testing.
  • Occasional installation and commissioning support on marine vessels within the UK and overseas.
  • Deliver in-house and customer training seminars.
  • Liaise with Notified Bodies (e.g., TUV, DNV).
Qualifications, Skills, and Experience
  • Degree in electronic engineering, including control system theory, with at least 7 years of post-graduation experience.
  • Full clean driving license.
  • Proven knowledge of digital and analogue electronics technologies.
  • Schematic design, capture, and PCB layout skills.
  • Ability to create and maintain technical documentation supporting product development, including specifications, manuals, and end-user instructions.
  • Experience in creating and delivering presentations to customers and partners.
  • Experience with the full design lifecycle, from initial negotiations, requirements capture, subsystem design, hardware development, testing, to final integration.
  • Ability to work autonomously and communicate effectively at all levels.
  • Understanding of qualification standards.
  • Awareness of cost and schedule constraints to meet project needs.
  • Articulate with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with marine vessel steering control and navigation systems is desirable.
  • Basic knowledge of hydraulic control systems.
