Background:   IT Platforms is accountable for developing, maintaining and running thein-house systems and platforms supporting the Aviva businesses. Thefunction is accountable for delivering secure, highly available andcost-effective platform solutions key to delivery of Aviva's businessstrategy and is the source of Aviva's software engineering capability.   Role Purpose:   Develop deep knowledge and understanding of platforms within remit: Scoping, managing & implementing run activity in accordance with the agreed platform strategy for aligned customer areas. Performing value adding governance, design & quality assurance to ensure customer outcome is delivered to the highest standard, whilst ensuring delivery is achieved within agreed budget and timescales.Provide technical insight and support to software engineers, technical designers, infrastructure teams and others to support change and run activities on the platform.   Key aspects of the role:   Technical leadership of the team, direct or matrix, including coaching, motivating and setting appropriate objectives. Consultancy in relation to system design, capacity management and maintenance. Assist with defining standards within the Platform, based upon industry best practice and with compliant Aviva policies, legislation and regulation. Influence Change practices based on Aviva strategy and Industry best practice e.g. adoption of Software Engineering practices and tooling. Identify, manage and control risks and Issues. Recommend appropriate ways of managing risks identified within proposed solutions. Champion process improvements, embedding new ways of working focus on driving up quality of deliverables and the way we operate within the Platform. Relationship management of associated stakeholders including business, architecture and IT suppliers. Ensure that changes to the Platform are compliant with Aviva architecture standards, or deviations are agreed with the relevant governance authorities.  Risk & Controls:  Identify, own and manage the specific key risks and/or IT controls and BP standards that you are identified as the owner and/or nominee for on iCARE. Ensure that issues and actions associated to controls / risks are remediated in a timely manner. Maintain appropriate records and ensure that controls are sufficiently well designed and operating effectively to keep the risks that they mitigate within Aviva's tolerance level. Report and escalate the status of the relevant risks, controls and standards as appropriate.  Scope:  Assignments will be across all levels of UKI, projects/programmes oftenwithin Agile cross functional teams and could include the co-ordination(& possible task management) of other Platform Specialists, SoftwareEngineers and Business Users & Suppliers on the assignment.  Resource Complexity:  Direct and matrix management of:  Aviva permanent staff, GSP's & Contractors. All systems and applications within UKI (Globally where appropriate). Resource management, planning and assignment of colleagues.  Problem Solving:  What type of problems need to be solved: Ability to provide technical solutions in support of change and run activity within their Platform. Provide strategic solutions for deficiencies in process and operational procedures.What are the key decisions taken:Acceptance of change into the Platform.Resource alignment due to demand required for scale of deliveries.Changes to strategic direction based in Aviva or industry operational and technological advances.  Change:  What change is the role holder responsible for? Implementation of operational structure, technical direction and sense of ownership to deliver better customer outcomes from the Platform. Strive to utilise technical capabilities within the Platform to deliver better customer outcomes.   Experience / Skills Required:   Technical expertise in associated frameworks, e.g. cloud, C#, powershell, Test & Behaviours Driven Development. Strong experience in server development and associated concerns, e.g. stored procedures, ssis packages, database access, security. Hands on experience on high volume systems, e.g. 100->1000 transactions per minute, large table manipulation (10+ billion row tables / indexes). Demonstrate in depth experience of the Platform they support with practical experience gained over a significant period Significant Knowledge of various standards and best practices associated with this Platform within comparable Companies Proven record in delivering run and/or change within this Platform in a Platform specialist capability. Experience at leading a team, direct or matrix, including coaching, motivating and setting appropriate objectives.   Additional Information:   Salary: 30,650 - 59,050 - dependent on skills & experience.  One of Aviva's core values is Care More, and this is brought to lifethrough the flexible ways we like to work.
