An exciting opportunity has arisen as a Team Leader to manage the building surveying team and provide a broad range of building surveying, civil engineering and construction expertise across the port to maintain and improve existing buildings, port infrastructure and other structures or facilties.
 
This is a wide ranging role requiring experience in the following areas:

•    Contract specifications, documentation & administration
•    Condition surveys and assessments
•    Estimating
•    Budget management
•    Management of contractors
•    Project Management
•    Team Management
•    Maintenance planning
•    Risk and environmental assessments
 
 
You must have a recognised degree in an appropriate building, surveying, civil engineering or structural discipline combined with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in a similar role.  You will also need a working knowledge of CDM regulations and relevant statutory requirements.
 
We are looking for a pro-active individual with good interpersonal and communication skills, the ability to problem solve and who is capable of managing their own and others workload.

Job Purpose
 
As leader of the Building Surveying team providing a broad range of building surveying, civil engineering and construction expertise across the port to maintain and improve existing buildings, port infrastructure and other structures or facilities. The post holder will play an important role in supporting the department and assisting with the delivery of team and personal objectives.
 
The post holder will have primary expertise in building surveying related matters such as facilities management, inspections, contract specifications and tender document preparation, feasibility studies, risk assessments, method statements, design, estimates, project management, contract administration, financial and budget monitoring, consultants briefing and direction, condition surveys, supervision and direction of on-going contracted or direct labour works. This will include the provision of site supervision with particular regard to specification compliance, quality and health and safety.
 
The post holder will act as a manager of the in-house building surveying team and will lead and co-ordinate team resources, including labour, transportation and materials. In addition, they will be expected to foster good working relationships with key clients such as the Estate department and the Cruise and Cargo department as well as the wider port community. You will be expected to innovate in order to effect continual service improvements and ensure agreed service level agreements are met.
 
Financial awareness, financial planning, budget monitoring and control are key elements of this role. Conformance to
the Port of Dover’s procedures and all relevant statutory requirements within the post holders discipline is essential.
 
The work undertaken by the team includes designing and executing planned maintenance programmes, tendering and managing contracts; planning and evaluating the effectiveness of contract or direct labour; providing training, mentoring and assistance to other technical staff in fault fixing and ultimately taking responsibility for the resolution of the challenging faults and problems.
 
The post holder will play an integral part in the function of the Department in ensuring that the Board’s assets are
maintained and repaired effectively, efficiently and to the appropriate standards of safety.
