Our client is a growing property developer based in East Dorset. They are now looking for a  Structural Engineer to join their team?
The incumbent will be involved in the design of building structures working across a variety of sectors including hospitality, Construction, care, residential and commercial property.
The candidate must ensure their designs satisfy the given design criteria, predicated on safety, serviceability and performance.
About the role
The Structural Engineer will:
  • Inspect existing buildings and recommendation options for repairs or demolition
  • Ensure that projects meet legal guidelines, environmental directives and Health and Safety requirements
  • Analyse configurations of the structural components of a building or other structure;
  • Calculate the pressures, stresses and strains that each component, such as a beam or lintel, will experience from other parts of the structure due to human use or environmental pressures such as weather or earthquakes;
  • Liaise with other designers, including architects, to agree on safe designs and their fit with the aesthetic concept of the construction;
  • Examine structures at risk of collapse and advise how to improve their structural integrity, such as recommending removal or repair of defective parts or rebuilding the entire structure · Produce drawings, specifications and computer models of structures for building contractors
  • Work with geotechnical engineers to investigate ground conditions and analyse results of soil sample and in situ tests;
  • Liaise with construction contractors to ensure that newly erected buildings are structurally sound;
  • Use computers and computer-aided design (CAD) technology for simulation purposes
  • Provide technical support including report writing and presentations
  • Attend design meetings, site meetings and carry out site inspections
What I am looking for:
 
  • Master’s Degree in Engineering
  • A detailed understanding of structural and building design (BS and Euro codes)
  • Proven record of developing design ideas using CAD Software
  • The ability to work creatively and independently
  • You will need to be enthusiastic and self-motivated
  • Good communication skills both written and oral
  • An ability to lead, coach and manage project teams to ensure delivery of work on time and as requested
  • A proficiency in the use of relevant technical analysis and design software
  • Min. 5 years post-graduate experience
  • Experience within the UK residential sector is necessary
  • A variety of experience is preferred, with the ability to willingly diversify into all aspects of engineering when required
